MANISTEE — The City of Manistee Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Oct. 3, featuring a special use permit for a proposed marijuana business.

Commissioners will review site plans from developers with NW properties LLC at 70 Arthur St., and the public will have a chance to comment during the public hearing.

A decision will not be made during the meeting.

In addition, the Planning Commission will make a decision on a special use permit for another proposed marijuana business at 240 Arthur St. in Manistee. At a Sept. 5 meeting, Trevor Wisniewski, of Great Lakes Natural Remedies, Inc., presented site plans of the proposed business.

The two applicants, if approved, will join 10 proposed marijuana businesses which were previously approved for special use permits on Sept. 19. All of the businesses are proposed in Manistee’s Marijuana Sales Overlay district on Arthur Street.

There are over 20 parcels in the district.

“For the amount of special use permits that can be granted (by the Planning Commission), this district does not have a set number,” said Kyle Storey, City of Manistee zoning administrator.

Ryan Fitzsimmons, in a letter to the Manistee County Planning Department, said NW properties LLC at 70 Arthur St. is seeking a permit to operate an adult-use “recreational” marijuana retail establishment.

“Meds Cafe LLC, who currently operates a licensed medical marijuana provisioning center in Rogers City, MI, will run the retail space as the sublessee,” stated Fitzsimmons, in the letter.

At the Sept. 5 meeting, Wisniewski told commissioners that Great Lakes Natural Remedies plans to operate a medical marijuana provisioning center and a recreational marijuana retail establishment.

After obtaining a special use permit, the next step in the process would be to go through the City of Manistee’s marijuana licensing application process. A state license is also required before a business can operate.

The following properties were previously approved for special use permits, each with a set of stipulations:

• Fresh Coast Provisioning LLC: 28 Arthur St.;

• Fresh Coast Provisioning LLC: 32 Arthur St.;

• Arthur Street Exchange LLC: 50 Arthur St.;

• Lake Effect LLC: 74 Arthur St.;

• First Property Holdings LLC; 214 Arthur St.;

• Urban Roots Detroit LLC: 24 Arthur St.;

• DCCA LLC: 34 Arthur St.;

• GR Bud LLC: 48 Arthur St;

• Michigan Provisioning Center LLC: 52 Arthur St.; and

• DNVK 3 LLC: 64 Arthur St.

Also during the meeting on Oct. 3, commissioners will consider a permit extension request at 461 Fifth St. in Manistee. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in council chambers at Manistee City Hall.
