The woman, under the name on Reddit, revealed she achieved her impressive weight loss by combining two diet plans.

At her heaviest, the 25-year-old dropped from 17st 12lbs to 13st 2lbs during her transformation.

She explained how she combined intermittent fasting with the keto diet to help her slim down.

A keto diet is a high fat and low carb plan which enables slimmers to limit their net carb intake to about 25 grams per day.

This helps the body enter a fat burning state which is called ketosis, also known as keto, which promotes weight loss.

Slimmers eat foods high in fat including meat, fish, nuts, eggs, dairy, non-starchy vegetables and fruits low in sugar.

What is the keto diet?

The keto, short for ketogenic diet, is a low-carb high-fat diet which is similar to the Atkins Diet.

By following this diet, it puts the body into a state of ketosis, which means it starts using ketone bodies – burning more fat.

Although everyone’s bodies needs different things, it usually means:

  • 60-70% calories from fat
  • 15-30% calories from protein
  • 5-10% calories from carbohydrates

Doctors and nutritionists have also pointed out that the keto diet is not sustainable long term.

Dr Alan Barclay, Dietitian and Research Associate at The University of Sydney, said: “It’s not something that I recommend for the general population for the long-term.

“By drastically cutting out carbohydrate-containing foods, you’ll miss out on the nutritional benefits of healthy choices like whole grains, fruit, starchy vegetables, and legumes such as beans, chickpeas and lentils.

“If you’re looking to lose weight, burning fat may sound like the key to success, but in actual fact it comes with some risks, and may not be effective in the long term.

“The Ketogenic diet is a short-term solution to a long-term healthy problem.”
