Have you embarked on a weight loss diet, but just can’t seem to shift the pounds around your middle?
Belly fat is notoriously hard to get rid of.
But it’s not impossible to eliminate fat around your middle.
Excess fat around the belly can be dangerous if it surrounds the organs.
While there’s nothing wrong with being loud and proud about your curves on the beach, there is a darker side to having excess belly fat.
Research has found too much visceral fat can increase the risk of health complications such as type 2 diabetes, fatty liver and heart disease.

Firstly, look at your diet and try to cut out junk food, takeaways and foods high in sugar.
These are usually high in calories and don’t always fill you up.
Dr Aishah recommends replacing with healthier food options, and remember to eat plenty of fibre and drink more water.

As well as eating a healthy diet, exercise is key to losing weight.
Dr Aishah said: “Developing strength and muscle can help you with your weight loss.”
Having more muscle mass helps you burn more calories while you are resting.

Remember to not just focus on core exercises.
Doing workouts that involve all muscles will be better.

Try choosing the stairs instead of the escalators, get off the stop before on public transport or even arrange a “walking date” with a friend.
Dr Aishah said: “The benefits of walking are so vast, including weight loss, increased energy levels and an improvement in mood”.
