Election day

As of Wednesday evening, the 9th District general election is still scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

The executive director of the state Board of Elections is allowed to alter an election schedule if the normal schedule has been disrupted by a natural disaster or extremely inclement, a news release from that office says.

“We are monitoring the weather closely and communicating with county boards of elections,” state elections board Executive Director Brinson Bell said in the news release. “I will consider remedies to the loss of early voting hours and other interruptions in the coming days, based on the conditions on the ground, the availability of polling places and workers and other factors.”

The 9th District runs from Charlotte to Fayetteville. This special election is being conducted because the state Board of Elections found evidence of fraud in the 2018 election.
