New Delhi: The monsoon season is infamous for the spread of infections and diseases, as it provides pathogens a hot and humid climate to thrive. As India experiences the monsoons this year amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the risk and fear of life-threatening infections is even higher. In his address to the nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also talked about how the spread of diseases is higher in the monsoons, and how people should be even more careful and cautious during this time.

The Ministry of Ayush, keeping in view the health conditions in the country, has also shared certain guidelines on home remedies that people can use as prevention against flu, and other infections that are common in the monsoon season. 

Home remedies to stay safe from infections during the monsoons

According to reports, the AYUSH Ministry has recommended the following remedies to keep infections at bay, especially during the monsoons.

  • Golden Milk – Turmeric milk, also known by the fancy name Golden Milk, is commonly not consumed during the summer season and is in fact, a winter speciality. However, given the health crisis at hand, the consumption of turmeric milk as a prevention and treatment has been recommended. Turmeric has antibiotic and antiseptic properties, which helps in healing the body both internally and externally. It also helps to boost immunity.
  • Steam – Steam really helps clean the nasal passages, especially in people who are experiencing symptoms of a cold. You may add a few drops of essential oils such as tea tree oil, etc in hot water, and use it to take in the steam. According to Dr Kunal, you may also make an effective treatment for symptoms of flu and common cold by adding some natural herbs such as ajwain, or mint to hot water reported Jansatta.
  • You may also make a paste with mint, ajwain plant leaves, and Nilgiri. You can apply this paste on the neck to relieve a sore throat effectively. This paste and mixture are also available at almost all ayurvedic stores.

Symptoms of seasonal flu

At a time when the COVID-19 disease is so widespread, it is important to identify symptoms of seasonal flu to tell the two apart. Being sick already can increase your risk and susceptibility to the coronavirus, and you must stay extra careful if you already have any of the following symptoms –

  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Blocked nose
  • Cough
  • Body aches
  • Headaches
