Natural remedies for dry scalp

Probiotics: These help in boosting the immune system and keep fungal infections at bay. An adequate amount of water should be consumed daily in order to improve scalp and hair health.

No excessive shampoo: Using too much shampoo can be detrimental to your scalp as it removes the vital moisture from the skin that is home to the hair roots. Apply oil on your scalp 1-2 hours before washing your hair. Wash it off with gentle shampoos or natural products like either powders or watery extracts of boiled and cooled shikakai and reethas etc.

For itchy scalp try these natural oils as conditioner

Coconut oil: It easily penetrates into the hair and helps in maintaining the protein. It moisturises the scalp and can help treat atopic dermatitis.

Argan oil: It is rich in Vitamin E3 and essential fatty acids. Olive oil has the same properties as Argan oil.

Jojoba oil: It consists of anti-inflammatory properties and helps in tackling scalp infections.

Hot oil treatment: Gently massage your scalp with warm oil improves your blood circulation. It helps in nourishing your hair. Hot oil massage with coconut or almond oil can be an effective treatment for a dry scalp.

Honey: Due to its ability to attract moisture, it acts as a good conditioner. Honey possesses antioxidant and antifungal properties, that help in treating dandruff. Those having dry scalp can mix a teaspoon of honey and an equal amount of coconut oil and apply it to the scalp.

Avocados: These are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids, Vitamin E, and phytosterol. Take an avocado and peel off the flesh and prepare a paste by mixing egg yolk, a tablespoon of honey and coconut oil. Make sure that the paste is applied to damp hair. Wash your head after 15-20 minutes.

Yoghurt: Take a little bit of egg yolk and mix it with a small amount of yoghurt. Gently massage your scalp with the paste and wash it after 15-20 minutes. It acts as a good conditioner.

Blow dryer: Avoid using a blow dryer and use a towel instead to dry your hair. 

Shower filter: Ensure that your bathroom shower has a filter attached to it.

Aloe vera: It possesses anti-inflammatory properties and acts as an effective moisturising agent.

Apple cider vinegar: It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties which can eliminate the bacteria or fungi and treat dry scalp.

Baking soda and olive oil: While baking soda has antifungal and antibacterial properties, olive oil possess moisturising properties. Prepare a paste by mixing olive oil and baking soda and gently massage your scalp. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it.

Bananas: Besides having moisturising properties, bananas are antimicrobial in nature. Blend a banana with a small amount of olive or coconut oil and apply the paste on your scalp and leave it for 15-20 minutes.
