Health secretary Matt Hancock forced to defend himself for eating caramel waffle for breakfast – Yahoo Finance

Health secretary Matt Hancock has had to issue a defence after he was caught scoffing a sugary snack for breakfast live on television.

The Conservative MP for West Suffolk was caught eating the caramel waffle, or stroopwaffle, by Good Morning Britain cameras as he waited for a live link up with the studio.

As he appeared on air host Piers Morgan asked him what he’d eaten for breakfast – setting the trap.

Mr Hancock said: “I had a banana and I had a stroopwaffle because I needed energy.

“Given we’re a breakfast show is this your rallying cry to the nation – have a caramel waffle to get you going?”
