MANISTEE — On a near perfect autumn morning, the Falling For Fitness (F3) program celebrated their training with a Trick or Treat 5K last Saturday.

The early morning sun warmed the frost covered trail as costume-clad runners trick or treated their way through the Bear Lake School cross country course, receiving candy and treats from volunteers along the route.

Over the course of the past six weeks, students in the third to sixth grade level from the Bear Lake, Manistee and Onekama Consolidated schools have participated in a six week training program for the big event. Saturday’s 5K run was the culmination of the program and it proved to be a successful event.

This is the first season that each team hosted a shorter event leading up to the 5K race. Onekama Consolidated Schools hosted a one mile race, Manistee a 1.5 mile run and Bear Lake a 2 mile race.

Organizers said the event wouldn’t have been possible with the assistance of an amazing group of volunteers. The F3 program is able to offer an introduction to running and fitness to the local youth.
